A few years ago, a lovely family in a nearby small community asked us to redo their landscape. We don't have any "before" pictures, but here is a shot immediately after completing the landscape.
You can see fresh brickwork, natural stone steps, and erosion matting to re-grow turf.
Four years later we revisited, and the landscape has grown up with the family.
This photo shows the well-used steps from another angle.
You can't even imagine how peaceful and idyllic this home's setting is, and it was amazing to see how the landscaping now contributes to that ambiance.
The brick path beckons you to the softly sunny backyard. The PeeGee hydrangea bushes nod their heavy heads.
A Pagoda dogwood tree has nestled into the corner, providing a vertical element. Russian Sage and Strawberry Candy daylilies mesh with the house colors. A Sunkist arborvitae shows off contrasting charteuse foliage.
The homeowners have not been afraid to let the landscape grow and to actually USE it.
Look! Kids live here! I see a ball and wet sandals!
Look! The homeowners have added their own finds in amongst the plants!
The evening these pictures were taken, kids were hooping and hollering, and adults were lingering and laughing. It was the perfect summer evening. I'm pretty sure I saw Norman Rockwell in the corner, painting the scene. It was a good day to be a landscaper.
This parting shot shows a new tiered retaining wall we had just finished. I would love to live here with this wonderful family in this beautiful place, but I'm pretty sure they won't let me. At least I can count on a return trip to take "after" pictures of the backyard.
